The Representation of Women in Mountain Biking Media

During my time at university, I chose to do my dissertation on the representation of women in the MTB media. As a relatively new rider at the time who was just starting out as a journalist in the industry, I was eager to find out what riders thought of the topic. The full title is:

The Representation of Women in Mountain Biking Media:

Is the rise of women participating in mountain biking adequately reflected in the media’s coverage of the sport?

One interesting point in regards to this, since its publication in 2014, both Total Women’s Cycling and Women’s Cycling UK are no more. TWC remains online and all the content is still available, but there are no longer any staff employed at the title following Factory Media going into liquidation in 2018. There continue to be improvements and the coverage of women is still being predominately led by women with publications such as BikeRadar Women, and Singletrack Magazine providing women’s specific coverage. There are also a number of great blogs, if you want to check some out, this is an AMAZING list.

I wanted to publish this as a resource for others so that we can see how things have progressed, how we can continue to make changes, and in the hope it may be helpful to someone else. If you’d like any further information please get in touch.
