Life isn’t black and white, but I don’t need to tell you that.
Life is a series of ups and downs, the unbelievable highs so good that you begin to wonder when you’ll fall back down to earth. The lows, so low that you feel like your lungs are sinking in internal quicksand and you can’t get a breath. When you’re trying to see through fog so thick that you’re not really sure if it’s ever going to clear. It’s changing direction, it’s being open, it’s wondering which way to turn.
Life isn’t easy. It’s an ever flowing rollercoaster. It’s making peace with your choices, it’s looking for guidance in the dark times, it’s not being afraid to ask for help. Luck, privilege, and maybe even fate has a hand to play in the navigation of life. We don’t know what’s in store, most of the time it’s out of our control. We can make changes, we can plan, but sometimes the outcome isn’t quite what we expect. That’s part of what makes it stressful, unforgiving, and so utterly incredible. Our lives are individual experiences, what we go through is individual to us, a unique experience that no one else will ever get to live. That’s what makes it so special.
It can be so hard to know what direction to go in, what choice to make. It’s important to reflect on what you have, where you’ve come from and have faith that where you’re going will happen one way or another. Don’t be afraid to seek help and communicate. In dark times our minds can be a lonely, very dangerous place when left to its own devices. We all find ourselves in the darkness once in a while, some more than others for prolonged periods of time. Some don’t talk about their darkness, some take solace in sharing what life is like devoid of light, and very few are lucky to teeter on the edge, never quite sinking into the void.
The point, if there is a point at all to this, is that even when you feel at your lowest and your tolerance isn’t what it usually is, when life keeps throwing hell and all at you is that there’s usually a point when it turns around. Take time for you, recharge, regroup and be selfish. Before you throw yourself back into battle, before you take that next step, make sure you have some reserves. There’s no point and no need to keep going round in circles when there’s nothing left in the tank.
Be kind, be true to you, and trust that in the darkness there is light.
Life isn’t black and white.
